Dr. Ed Ashby is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and owner of Family Legacy Counseling. In addition to serving as an individual, marriage and family counselor for the past 25 years, Dr. Ashby has been an ordained minister for over 35 years,  pastoring churches in California, Ohio, and Iowa. Ed earned his Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary in California, his Masters in Counseling Psychology from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio, and a Masters in Contemporary Ministry from Azusa Pacific University in California.

Dr. Ashby addresses a wide variety of issues in counseling such as depression, anxiety, anger management, and relational conflict.  Marital counseling is a major focus of Ed’s work, and along with this emphasis come the individual issues and unresolved hurts that create relational discord.  In addition, a significant portion of Ed’s work is helping clients whose self-esteem has been damaged by abuse (physical emotional or sexual) and the resulting difficulties that emerge in their adult lives.  Other areas of counseling focus include

  • Addictive behaviors
  • Emotional dysregulation and anger
  • Abuse recovery
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Communication skills
  • Leadership development
  • Spiritual formation
  • Personal Growth for Christian Leaders

In addition to counseling, Ed works with a wide range of issues within the church, as well as the specific stresses relating to ministerial families.  For the past several years, Ed has been engaged in the study of spiritual transformation, the process of spiritual direction and discipleship. This has developed into an additional role as Teaching Pastor within his local church.  Ed’s work as a pastor, and his experience in serving on local and regional boards, enable him to speak and coach with empathy, insight, and passion.

Ed has been married to Pat for over 40 years, and they have three married children and nine grandchildren.  In addition to spending time with family and friends in his leisure time, Ed’s an avid reader and plays guitar. He’s a lover of the outdoors and enjoys bow hunting and fishing and spending hours in the woods. The past few years he’s begun to do sprint triathlons and enjoys taking his motorcycle for a spin on a fine summer day.
