Jason Van Zee has completed Level 3 training from internationally known marriage experts Drs. John and Julie Gottman (gottman.com).  He collaborates with couples who desire to identify and remove obstacles blocking their communication, connectedness, and honesty.  He is committed to helping couples communicate with clarity and compassion!  He wants to provide an environment where you can safely work to strengthen your own tools to repair and heal your relationships.  He commonly works with clients dealing with:  infidelity, trust, communication breakdowns, blending families, parenting, sex, and intimacy.

Jason Van Zee is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  He completed his undergraduate study at Dordt College and earned his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary.  His studies have focused on relationships in couples and families and the systems within which they live and how these systems affect those within.  He is additionally certified to administer Prepare/Enrich premarital assessment.  Jason’s previous experience includes work with adolescents and their families in a year-round wilderness setting that was an alternative to juvenile detention.

Currently, Jason enjoys working with marriages, adolescents, and individuals working through a wide range of issues.  Jason is passionate about working with marriages and sees them as a picture of how marriage resembles Christ and the Church.  He continues to enjoy working with adolescents, and in his therapy with individuals, Jason focuses on meeting people where they are at and walking with them through difficult times.

The Lord has blessed Jason with a desire to come alongside those who are suffering, grieving or in bondage from the complexities of sin or life’s challenges.  He hopes to be used as a timely instrument of grace and mercy as he attempts to humbly represent the Great Counselor, Jesus Christ, and the message of hope that He offers (Matthew 11:28-29).

Jason’s areas of interest include:

  • Marriage and parenting issues
  • Integrating faith and client values into psychotherapy
  • Mindfulness living
  • Healthy lifestyle and balanced living
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Communication skills
  • Emotional dysregulation and anger

Therapist’s Statement:

I love spending time with my wife and four girls.  There is never a dull moment at our home.  I also love the outdoors.  The stillness of the outdoors brings peace to my soul which allows me to shed the distractions of this life. This prepares me to meet with clients where they are in life and to see life through their lens. It is also vital for me to be involved in my local church, as I believe faith is an important part of a person’s mental health and well-being.
